Tips For Making Weekly Housework A Lot Easier

You’ve already got a lot to do in your life. You’ve got a family to care for, a job to work, and then you’ve got your own health and wellbeing piled on top – it can all get exhausting! So when the time comes to do your weekly set of housework, how are you supposed to fit it all in?

Well that’s what we’re here to help with. You don’t really have the energy left after a long week, and it only seems the mess gets bigger and bigger. But your housework doesn’t have to wipe you out when you know how to move systematically and with the right tools in hand. Here are our top tips for managing this kind of workload.

Always Have a Drawer Spare

If you’ve got a spare drawer, you’ve got a place to put things when you don’t know where else to hide them/don’t have to time to tidy them away properly. Then once a month you can come back to this drawer and sort things out, taking a good hour or two to put things away in the best place. But in the meantime, just shove them in a drawer and be on your way.

It’s best to have a drawer like this in each room. That means you can just chuck and go no matter where you are in the house, and you can tell the kids to do the same. You can save plenty of time and energy doing this, and only have to face up to the task once you’ve steeled yourself for it!

Wipe Down Surfaces Whenever You Use Them

Surfaces can catch a lot of horrible things during their lifetime. As such, it’s best to give them a wipe down whenever you use them. Not only does this make your home safer and cleaner to be in, but it also ensures you’ve not got a huge build up to try and rub away at the end of the week.

So either get the cleaning liquid of your choice in or keep a pack of antibacterial wipes in each room where counters exist, and break them out whenever you’ve got a surface to quickly go over. You’d be surprised over just how many toothpaste or spaghetti sauce stains come away with the cloth!

Invest in Powered Tools

If you’re using a tool that has a battery or plugs into the wall, the work you need to do will go ten times faster! And not only that, but you can save plenty of your own energy here by not having to put as much ‘welly’ in. A battery powered vacuum has made keeping the floors clean a lot easier; you just need to slot the battery in and get going without any other worry.

You can get these kinds of tools for both inside and outside. For example, if you’ve got a lot of plants to cut back, you can invest in a battery powered hedge trimmer and be done in a couple of hours. You won’t need to clear the whole afternoon, and can be relaxing with your feet up by dinnertime!

Assign a Specific Job to Each Person

And finally, why not start using your delegation powers? You’re not the only person who lives in the household, and that means you shouldn’t be doing all the work. So start handing out tasks, and make sure everyone has at least one task they have to do on a regular basis. Taking the bins out, for example, or loading the dishwasher. Olders kids are good for chores like these, but you can save them for other adult members if you’d rather.

For younger children you can assign tasks like dusting the top of the TV, or simply making sure the floor in their room can always be seen. A bit of cleaning responsibility goes a long way, and the different members of your family can be proud to pull their weight and help you out. You don’t have to do everything, so don’t force yourself!

If you’ve got a lot of housework to get through, don’t let the load get you down! Making things easier on yourself doesn’t have to be hard either, and you’ll have a lot more time in the day when you use tips like those above. Plus, a bit of housework here and there goes a long way, so you may not even need to do it weekly anymore once you’re done!
