The five best non-alcoholic cocktail recipes for a sober party

More and more of us are avoiding alcohol these days, for all manner of reasons, so when it comes to hosting a party you need to cater for those people. 

Whether it’s due to suffering from addiction and visiting an alcohol rehab or simply going on a health kick, either hosting a fully sober party or offering non-alcoholic options can be an option. At the heart of those can be non-alcoholic cocktails.

Virgin Mojito 

The mojito is the classic cocktail and this alcohol-free version keeps all the great minty and zesty flavour without the hangover. 

What you need: 

  • ½ lime, cut into wedges 
  • 6-8 fresh mint leaves 
  • 2 teaspoons of white sugar 
  • Ice cubes 
  • 150ml soda water 
  • Extra mint leaves and lime wedges for garnish 

The method: 

1. In a glass, add together the lime wedges, mint leaves, and sugar. 

2. Fill the glass with ice. 

3. Pour soda water over the ice and ingredients and stir. 

4. Add mint leaves and lime wedges for garnish and serve. 

Berry Sparkler 

The berry sparkler has plenty of fizz and fruity flavours, making it a real favourite for summer parties especially. 

What you need: 

  • 60ml mixed berry juice  
  • 60ml cranberry juice 
  • 120ml sparkling water 
  • Fresh berries for garnish 

The method: 

1. Fill a glass full of ice. 

2. Pur the mixed berry juice and cranberry juice over the ice. 

3. Top that up with the sparkling water and stir. 

4. Garnish with some fresh berries and serve. 

Cucumber Cooler 

If you’re looking for something cool and crisp, the cucumber cooler is a sophisticated mocktail that’s ideal for the classier gatherings you may be having. 

What you need: 

  • 4 slices of cucumber 
  • 60ml fresh lime juice 
  • 15ml honey or agave syrup 
  • 120ml soda water 
  • Ice cubes 
  • Cucumber slices or mint sprigs for garnish 

The method: 

1. Using a cocktail shaker, mix the cucumber slices with lime juice and honey or agave syrup. 

2. Fill the shaker with ice and shake. 

3. Strain the mixture into a glass that’s been filled with ice. 

4. Top up with soda water and gently stir. 

5. Garnish with cucumber slices or mint sprics and serve. 

6. In a cocktail shaker, muddle cucumber slices with lime juice and honey or agave syrup. 

Tropical Paradise 

If you want that paradise flavour, like you’re sitting on a beach soaking up the rays, then a tropical paradise can whisk you away and really add a ray of sunshine to a party’s proceedings. 

What you need: 

  • 60ml pineapple juice 
  • 60ml mango juice 
  • 60ml coconut water 
  • 15ml fresh lime juice 
  • Pineapple wedge or cherry for garnish 

The method: 

1. Fill a cocktail shaker with ice. 

2. Add the pineapple juice, mango juice and coconut water, as well as the lime juice. 

3. Shake vigorously until it’s all well chilled. 

4. Strain the liquid into a glass filled with ice. 

5. Garnish with a pineapple wedge or cherry and serve. 

Ginger Spice Fizz 

This non-alcoholic cocktail is a real fusion of spice, ginger and citrus, providing a real kick for anyone wanting to get the party started. 

What you need: 

  • 60ml ginger beer 
  • 30ml fresh orange juice 
  • 15ml fresh lemon juice 
  • Dash of Angostura bitters 
  • Ice cubes 
  • Orange twist for garnish 

The method: 

1. Fill a glass full of ice. 

2. Pour in the ginger beer, fresh orange and lemon juice. 

3. Add a dash of Angostura bitters and gently stir. 

4. Garnish with an orange twist and serve.
