Spice up Valentine’s Day with your hubby
When you’ve been married for a few years, the romance can start to fizzle out. Valentines’ Day is typically a day for new love to blossom, for grand displays of affection and declarations of secret love.
Once you’re married, it can become just like any other day in February. You might exchange cards and token gifts, but there’s no real spice or passion involved.
Some couples are happy to let this day go by, but others might want to recapture some of that early passion. If you’re the latter, then this guide is for you. We’re going to explore some of the simplest ways you can spice up Valentine’s Day with your hubby.
“Spice” can mean lots of different things to different couples. From reigniting the passion to rediscovering why you fell in love in the first place, we have a suggestion for everyone.
Learn something new together
Trying to do something new together is a great way to rediscover some of that early passion. You might both be terrible at your newfound hobby, but making new memories is what counts.
You could try something active, like rock climbing, or you could try something creative like a cooking class. Whether you get active and sweaty or indulge your senses, you can be sure you’ll be feeling a lot closer by the end of the day.
Try role-playing
The first time you try role-playing might feel silly, but you’ll soon discover that it opens up a whole range of opportunities. You can use role-playing to express your inner desires without the usual fear of judgement.
If you’re not sure how to bring it up, you could watch a “sort of raunchy” movie together and suggest recreating your favourite scenes. This is a great way to start exploring role-playing without having to think of your own scenarios.
Once you start to explore role-playing more often, you may find dressing up and creating personas for your characters is a lot of fun. It can allow you to transform your look with wigs, and try wearing clothes that you wouldn’t normally wear.
Explore new places
When we talk about exploring new places, we’re not talking about taking a trip to the nearest beauty spot. Unless of course, that’s where you want to try being intimate with your partner. We’re talking about taking sex out of the bedroom to truly spice things up.
The shower and kitchen and two places that couples love to try getting down and dirty, but you could get even more adventurous by taking it outside. Venture into the garden, your car or even on a secluded beach. The fear of getting caught will get you adrenaline racing.
Explore your senses
You might think getting intimate is all about touch, but there are other senses you’re ignoring. A truly awakening experience involves taste, scent, sound and sight.
This could mean exploring intimate massage with heavenly scented massage oils. Or you could bring food into the bedroom to enhance your sense of taste. Chocolate body paint, fruit and cream are all ideal for messy bedroom play – just make sure to cover up your favourite bed sheets.
Scented candles and luxurious body oils will fill the air with seductive scents. And finally, lingerie and soft mood lighting will tip the whole thing over the edge. So the next time you’re planning to get intimate, think about how you can entice all of the senses.
Communicate
Perhaps the most overlooked way to spice things up with your hubby is to simply communicate. Communication can break down over years of marriage and you might find you’re talking plenty about the day-to-day mundane things and saying nothing about your feelings and desires.
Valentine’s Day and the time following is an ideal opportunity to start a conversation about your feelings, thoughts and desires. Something as simple as making the time to talk about your feelings can make a huge difference to the intimacy in your marriage.
Communication doesn’t have to be awkward and in-person. You could start a flirty text exchange to try to bring back some of the passion that was flying around at the start of your relationship. Learning the art of sending the perfect sext is certainly worthwhile if you want to spice up your relationship.
