How to Make your Home Reflect your Passion for Travel
As a family, we love to travel. Making memories together, whilst we adventure across the globe, is something we’re really passionate about. The only problem is when we have to come home and ultimately, back to reality. Back to preparing meals for the week, packing school bags the night before and paying the bills. However, I’m a great believer in surrounding yourself with the things you love. That’s why I think it’s so important that us wanderlust folk have tributes to our travels around our home. That way we can get through those normal weeks by looking back on our holidays and reminiscing about those special holidays.
So, here’s a few ideas on how to show your passion for travel in your choice of home décor.
Map wall mural
A striking way to show your passion for travel is by installing a map wall mural. Don’t worry. They don’t look like they’ve come out of a school textbook. There are some cool, on-trend maps that have achieved the perfect balance of style and statement. Like the map above, they come in a range of tones, allowing you to style your room’s décor around the beautiful colours.
Once you’ve installed a gorgeous map mural, you’ll have endless fun as a family by testing each other on the names of countries and their capital cities. Who can name all of the African countries in under 1 minute?
So only will this map mural make a fantastic feature wall, but it’ll also be a great educational investment for your children.

Travel pinboard
Another great way to show your passion for travel is through a travel pinboard. You simply pin where in the globe you have visited. Over time, you’ll be able to step back and relish in how many places you’ve been able to visit.
It’s basically a really fun way to tick off all those places you’ve always wanted to visit. I would recommend buying a large one that includes all the smaller countries and islands. Sometimes these are left out on certain designs.
The beauty of a travel pinboard is that there’s a great range of designs out there so you’re sure to find one that will suit your current interior design. Not only do they come in a range of colours but they come in different styles. Rather than just a pinboard, some cork boards are cut out so that they are shaped like the countries and continents. There’s also scratch out maps. You simply grab a penny and scratch out which countries you’ve been to!
When you have your new pinboard, it won’t be long till your feet start itching and you’re already planning on where to travel in 2020!
Fridge magnet panels
It’s one of the most traditional and simple ways to show your love to travel but it’s an utter classic. The magnet collection! But sometimes you can’t squeeze anymore magnets onto your fridge. Or there are those of us who have had a beautiful kitchen installed but have a fridge disguised as a cupboard. Disaster!
Well, one way to display your many travel magnets is to install a large magnet board on your wall. Then you can put up all your beloved magnets from around the globe. You could even be really creative and order them in the order you visited there! It’s also a great conversation piece when you have people pop over for a chat!
Travel photo gallery
As a keen photographer, I have thousands and thousands (possibly millions) of photographs of our holidays. That’s the beauty of digital cameras and having phones with such good quality cameras. However, the downfall is having way loads of duplicates of the same photo. What’s even worse, is not being able to access them as quickly as you would with an old-fashioned photo album.
Well, one way to make the most of those treasured holiday snaps is to create a travel photo gallery. Find a blank wall in your home that is lacking inspiration or needs an update. Route through your local charity shops for second-hand frames in all different sizes. Then paint them in a two-colour combination of your choice. Next, print off all your most favourite holiday photos and create a fantastic photo gallery feature wall. There really is nothing as special as looking back on photographs. It takes you straight back to that special moment in time.
So there you go. My top four ideas on how to make your home reflect your passion for travel. Why not leave a comment below to share what you’ve done to show your love for travel? I’m sure you have some fantastic ideas.
