How to Make The Most Out of a Budget Family Holiday With Kids

Going on holiday is always a good experience for the whole family. It’s a great way to explore new places, make memories, and bond. On top of that, research on family tourism has shown that parents’ well-being and children’s generic skills increased after engaging in tourist activities together. Positive development for the entire family is reason enough to go on that trip you’ve been dreaming about.

Of course, we also live in a time of rising costs. This makes budgeting key to enjoying a stress-free vacation and still having what you need when you get home. Thankfully, having an amazing holiday on a budget is completely doable if you know how to get the most out of it.

Go for group discounts and promos

Plenty of group deals are available online, so do your due diligence, and you can sort out much of your trip expenses this way. You can start your research by looking for specific things you’re looking for, such as accommodations, dining packages, or activities. Plenty of dedicated group buying sites also offer services and discounts you can take advantage of.

You can usually filter for family-friendly options, but don’t limit yourself to deals with this tag. You may find some great discounts or promotions that are just tagged for groups, and you’ll still be able to use them for your family. If you read the details and use reputable resources, you should be able to screen it for any potential factors that may not be child-friendly.

Look for good flight deals

Your first step should be to look at all transportation options available before settling, but flying is a convenient option that doesn’t have to be pricey if you’re wise. You can get cheap flight tickets online quickly, but you’ll want to book ahead for lower fares. It’s best to pick an off-season that doesn’t see too much tourism, as this will prevent any price hikes.

Avoiding the peak season also allows you to use flight and hotel packages to usually packed places like Paris or the Mykonos. Many of these package deals even come with airport transfers, making your trip easier and cheaper right off the bat.

Pick places with many free activities

Often, maximising your budget comes down to where you’re going. You’ll want to consider the general cost of things for the location you’re visiting, whether local or international. On top of this, you may want to pick a place with plenty of free attractions and activities.

Many holidays become memorable because of your shared experiences, so look for fun things to do that don’t necessarily cost a fortune. Think outside the beaten path, and you may even discover unexpected gems. For instance, Croatia is an extremely walkable country that is less expensive than its popular neighbours. There are even plenty of free historical sites that are both fascinating and educational for the family, like the Cathedral of St Anastasia. Adventurous children may even enjoy checking out the marble sarcophagus within and the bell tower (though climbing the tower does come with a small fee.)

Plan meals and make snacks

Everyone’s got to eat, and food can be one of the most exciting parts of visiting new places. The best way to get this part of the holiday down without eating up most of the budget is by planning your meals. Eating in is generally cheaper, but you can do some research on local eateries to get their menu prices if you want to eat out.

You should also pack some snacks for moments when the children are peckish. Most snacks recommended by the National Health Service are quite affordable and use ingredients you can find in local markets regardless of where you are. Some affordable healthy snacks you won’t have trouble making are boiled eggs, cheesy oatcakes with tomatoes, and sliced fruit with yoghurt. With sufficient planning, your budget family trip could be one for the books!
