How to Keep Busy With Your Children During Lockdown 3.0
As 2021 continues, we are certainly going to continue spending more time at home. For some people it is a strange new reality, but it does not necessarily need to be a negative, especially when you have little ones at home with you. If anything, it is good to appreciate more family bonding time, which you sometimes forget to do when you are stuck in that 9 to 5 routine and the children are busy with their school homework, get home, sit on the sofa with a phone glued to their face or disappear upstairs to their bedroom to play the latest console game.
If 2020 has taught us anything that it’s good to cherish every single moment spent watching your children grow up as you will not get that time back.
Cooking and Baking
With more time on your hands and not having to prepare as many quick meals as perhaps you did when you got back home from a bust tiring day at work, now you can prepare food and cook with your children. Get them all involved giving them all different duties to do. You could perhaps cook their family favourite and they might even enjoy learning how it all comes together.
Baking a variety of different breads or cakes is another great opportunity to be in the kitchen together. Making things like bread or pizza dough gives them a responsibility and task to do for the day as it needs to be checked on throughout the day, they can really get stuck in with their hands and the outcome will be delicious.

Go Through Old Photos
Most children in 2021 might not even have seen things like printed photos as most people just capture images on their phone now and add various different filters to them. So, grab all the old photos out. You could all cosy up on the sofa together and show them some old photo albums from when you were a child talking through the various memories you have as you look through the photos. They will most likely be intrigued to hear about what you were like as a child and any funny, memorable moments.
Group Activity Puzzle
Remember these from when you were younger? Well, you must have a puzzle or two at home that you could gather down from the loft and sit on the floor with your children and get them all involved in completing a jigsaw puzzle. Each child could put together a different colour scheme of the puzzle and you could turn it into a fun competition over who can complete their task in the quickest time. It gives them something to focus on so good for concentration and being logical.
DIY Fun
An easy way to brighten up any room in your home instantly is to freshen up the walls with a coat of paint. It is the ideal opportunity to create a new look instantly by opting for a different colour too. All you need to do is move the heavy furniture away from the walls, cover with a dust sheet to protect it, and then get cracking.
The children can help with the painting and it is a fun activity to bond over which does not involve screen time. Get them involved with the design of the room, particularly if it is their bedroom with Aspect Wall Art to make it even more creative and personal.
Creative Tasks
Get your children’s creative juices flowing with some hands on activity painting and drawing. It’s an easy and cheap activity to do, all you need is some paint, blank paper and possibly paintbrushes and you are all good to go. Finger painting is even more fun, yes it’s more messy but you can get even more creative when you use your hands and not a brush and see what you can all create.
Green Space Time
If you’re lucky enough to have a garden, create a small patch where your children can grow seasonal fruit and vegetables It gives them a bit of responsibility as they would need to check on them each day and water them, and the end result is that you will have something tasty to eat and cook with. It also enables them to go outdoors for a bit which breaks up the monotonousness of being indoors and is great for mental wellbeing.
