While it will take a while before your baby starts moving around on its own, the sooner you babyproof your home the better. You don’t want to wait for your baby to start crawling around before you start to think about babyproofing because then you will be in a rush and might forget important things. It is also worth noting that babyproofing your home does not just mean checking for things that could be a risk to your baby, but also a risk to you while you are holding your baby, such as slippery floors.

1. Use Baby Gates

Baby gates are an essential tool to make sure that your baby is safe and not putting themselves in high-risk situations. Typically you will install baby gates at the tops and bottoms of any stairs in your home. This will stop babies from potentially getting onto the stairs and falling down them. 

2. Be Mindful of Heavy Objects

Heavy objects on bedside tables, shelves, and other low surfaces can be knocked off by your baby and if the object falls on them it can cause serious injury. This is extremely important as if your baby gets their hands on bleach or swallows a bunch of pills this can be fatal. While that might seem scary, it can be easily avoided by locking things away in cabinets and only buying cleaning products that have a child lock feature.
