Five reasons why vinyl is ideal for busy family homes

Your floors at home can take a pounding when you have a busy family home. Children playing, friends and family socialising, pets exploring, moving furniture around, and general everyday life can leave its mark on your floors. There are many articles online about how best to protect your floors and tips and tricks to clean them, so scuffs or marks are less noticeable, but prevention is always better than cure.

With this in mind, we wanted to take a look at vinyl. While you may associate vinyl with just a few rooms in your home, perhaps the kitchen and bathroom, it’s a fantastic option for everywhere in your home! Here are five reasons why vinyl flooring is ideal for your busy family home:

1 – It’s really durable

When you have a busy family home, you need floors which can withstand the stresses they will be put through each day. Above we mentioned just some of the challenges your floors face, and for some materials, this is simply too much. After a while, your floors will start to show signs of age either with marks, scuffs, dents, cracks or chips. However, because of the way vinyl is constructed using multiple layers, it offers a really durable flooring option. This means you can see a really long lifespan for your vinyl tile floor.

2 – It’s easy to clean

Anyone with children will know that accidents of all kinds are to be expected. For your floors, this can pose problems. Carpet, wood and even ceramic tiles are all prone to staining should something be spilt or dropped on them. Even heavy-duty cleaning solutions such as carpet cleaning machines can sometimes struggle to remove all stains. With vinyl flooring, this is not something you need to worry about. Not only is vinyl flooring water-resistant, but they are really easy to clean. As with all flooring, it will require a regular light cleaning with a brush or vacuum cleaner, but just doing a deeper clear with some dedicated cleaning solution once a year will keep your vinyl flooring looking its best for years to come.

3 – It’s comfortable and warm underfoot

One of the common misconceptions about vinyl flooring is that, like ceramic tiles, it is cold and hard to walk on. We all know the feeling of stepping out of bed on a cold morning and feeling the cold air on our feet, and the thought of stepping onto a floor which is also cold really isn’t appealing. Vinyl, however, offers a comfortable and warm feel which makes it an excellent option for use throughout your home. Bedroom flooring is often dominated by carpet, but with luxury vinyl flooring, you can achieve some fantastic designs while still enjoying the warmth and comfort it offers. This can also be increased with the addition of underfloor heating, which works brilliantly with vinyl flooring to help heat your home. Furthermore, as young children love to play on the floor, you want a surface which is comfortable for them and where they can play without getting cold or hurt from a tumble or trip.

4 – There is huge variety

Vinyl flooring companies are working really hard to produce a variety of designs to fit with our everchanging design tastes and styles. Combined with vinyl flooring’s other benefits, this allows more people than ever before to find vinyl flooring that will not only be practical but look great in their home. In addition to a wide variety of vinyl tile finishes available, like traditional wood flooring, there are many laying patterns that can further alter the look of your vinyl tile floor. The combination of different finishes and laying patterns mean there are endless combinations to choose from.

5 – Sound insulation

Busy homes can often result in a lot of noise. With so many of us working from home at the moment, the last thing you need during an online meeting is to hear your kids running around upstairs. With vinyl flooring, because of its multiple layers, it offers good sound insulation and does not have the harsh noise of a traditional hardwood or ceramic tile floor when walking across it in shoes. Some flooring providers also offer an option to have vinyl flooring with an acoustic backing to further reduce sound impact and make it quieter underfoot. It is also really easy to find rugs that will further insulate your floor for sound in areas where people walk across multiple times during the day.

These are not the only reasons why vinyl flooring is ideal if you have a busy home, but they are some of the most important ones. The flooring in your home should be an extension of your personal style in the same way the art on the walls or your furniture choices are. However, as with anything family related, there needs to be a practicality element as well. This combination of style and practicality makes vinyl a brilliant option for every room in your home.
