Easy ways to makeover a child’s bedroom

I don’t know about your children but if they are anything like mine, they change their minds a lot. Over the years my kids have gone through various phases where they have been desperate for their bedrooms to be kitted out in the theme of their favourite TV show or colour, and I’ve ended up wall papering and fitting curtains only for them to grow out of it, or change their minds, just months later.

After four children I have realised that there are several ways to makeover your child’s bedroom without making permanent changes or costing a fortune, like having bunk beds for kids if you have more kids sharing one room. Thus, I’m here to share more tips with you now.

1. Add some character with wall Stickers

Using wall stickers on plain walls is a great way to inject a little character to your child’s room without making permanent changes. They can easily be applied and removed, are inexpensive to buy, and can bring a little fun to your child’s bedroom theme. We had them in the children’s nurseries and they can be so effective!

2. Introduce colour with soft furnishings

With neutral walls, curtains and carpets, you can introduce flashes of colour with duvet sets, cushions and rugs. Again, they don’t have to cost a fortune but can completely transform a room to suit all ages and trends.

3. Don’t forget to use feature light fittings

Light fittings can often be overlooked in bedroom makeovers but they are a great way to switch up the feel of a room and create a completely different look. Choosing the right lighting for a room is so important so I definitely recommend really taking your time to choose something which is perfect for your child and their room lay-out.

4. Replace the flooring

Replacing the flooring can make a huge difference to your childs bedroom. Personally, although carpet can feel warmer, wood flooring with a soft rug is far more practical when it comes to kids. Not only is it easier to keep clean, but it can really grow with your child creating a more stylish, grown up feel to the room as the years pass.

5. Upcycle old furniture

Up-cycling old furniture is a great way to makeover a room without having to splash out on new furniture. Chalk paint is a great way of transforming old furniture and using a fresh white can really brighten a room and create a more spacious feel. We are in the process of chalk painting our existing pine furniture white and it’s incredibly easy!
