Decorating tips: details that can make a difference
Every year around spring and summer, when the sunny days come round, I feel this sudden urge to clean and remodel the whole house. Having spent more time at home for these past few months has not helped either, as I find it impossible to not spend time in a room without thinking of the changes I could make.
If you’re like me and simply don’t have the budget to redo your living room every year, you’re in the right place! There are plenty of small changes you can make that will have an impact on your interior without spending a fortune.
Tip 1: Spruce up your radiators
I bet you weren’t expecting me to start with radiators! Now, I am in no way suggesting that you should change your radiators (as that wouldn’t necessarily qualify as a small change) even though a stylish radiator can really bring a room together. Something that can easily be changed however, are radiator valves – and now you can find a plethora of styles and colours so you can really get creative and add that finishing touch. Checkout the selection from Trade Radiators and you will see just how many options you have: traditional or modern, from classic white to bold copper, it will be perfect to brighten up your radiators.
Tip 2: Knock off your doorknobs
In the same line of ideas as adding a finishing touch to a radiator with designer valves, adding a doorknob that has a striking design can make all the difference. Whether they are simply here for design purposes or have to be functional too, you can really express your style there. I love doors that have a simple design and colour but have a doorknob with an original shape and/or colour. If you are not sure where to start, try not clash with the overall style of the door: wooden doors will do well with retro door knobs while modern materials will suit contemporary designs and shapes.
Tip 3: Brighten up your switch plates
If you haven’t changed your light switches in a while (or, ever) chances are you will have switch plates that are just plain and white. There is nothing wrong with simplicity, but if you’re looking to freshen up your décor, switch plates are an easy way to do that. If you’re confident in your DIY skills you could change them up for coloured models or more original designs, but you can also choose to wallpaper the plates or paint them with a bold colour. Small amounts of colour can do wonders in interiors and updating your switch plates are an easy way to add some colour without overdoing it.
Tip 4: Rotate your accessories and art
You would be amazed to see the difference in a room by simply switching up the placement of your accessories and art on the wall. The easiest way to freshen up a space is to work with what you have, so why not simply rethink your interior with the elements you own? Maybe you want to try that piece of art that was in your living-room and place it in your bedroom, or switch up some of the accessories on display? We often get used to the way things are placed in a room and it’s natural to think that buying new things is what will make a difference, but if you’re on a budget, try to change things up at first and you’ll see just how much impact this can have!
I hope you’ve enjoyed these few tips, let us know if you try them. Check out this post if you’d like more interior design inspiration.
