7 Ways To Make Lawn Care Easy

Looking after a lawn can be hard work, however there are few lazy lawn hacks that can help make things easier. Below are just 7 ways to make lawn care easy.

Choose high quality grass seed

The type of grass seed you buy could affect how well your lawn grows. Make sure to opt for high quality seed. You can buy grass seed for lawns, landscaping and more online. Be wary that certain types of grass may be better for certain types of soil.

Minimise lawn obstacles

Mowing the lawn can be much more of a chore if you have to continuously mow around things. Try to only keep furniture and objects on your lawn that you can easily move – avoid any heavy cast iron furniture or permanent structures. You could also consider sectioning off trees with gravel so that you’re not having to mow around roots.

Fertilise in Autumn

Fertilising your lawn can help to improve growth. However, you don’t have to keep fertilising it throughout the year. Most lawns can get away with only being fertilised once per year in autumn. Test your soil to find the best fertiliser for your lawn.

Pull out weeds when the soil is damp

Pulling out weeds can be hard when the soil is dry. Wait until after some rainfall to pull out any weeds – it’s much easier to pull weeds out of the ground when the soil is damp and soft.

Leave grass clippings on your lawn

Save the task of collecting all those grass clippings on your lawn by leaving them there after you’ve finished mowing. Grass clippings are full of nutrients that can be transferred back into the soil by letting them decompose naturally.

Invest in an automated lawn mower

If you find mowing to be a chore, consider whether it’s time to invest in a new self propelled lawn mower. Many modern lawn mowers are self-propelled – you push a button and they go forward by themselves. This can make mowing a lot less physically exertive than having to push the lawn mower manually. Of course, you can take this a step further by opting for an automated lawnmower. These are small robots that work much like robot vacuum cleaners, sensing the perimeters of your lawn and mowing it automatically for you. In other words, you can put your feet up while your lawn mower cuts the grass for you.

Opt for artificial grass

If you really don’t have the time for lawn maintenance, consider whether it’s worth switching to artificial grass. Unlike a real lawn, you don’t have to mow or water an artificial lawn. Modern artificial grass looks very convincing and can be just as soft to tread on. You will occasionally need to clean it and brush it to keep it looking presentable, but you won’t have to worry about it getting overgrown or patchy. Good quality artificial grass will last longer, so be prepared to spend a little extra. There are recyclable options that you can buy if you’re concerned about the environmental impact on artificial grass.
