7 Reasons to go to Mykonos

Are you trying to decide where you should head off to this summer? Greece is always a popular option for tourists and there are so many beautiful locations to choose from. Crete is one of my absolute favourites and somewhere I would recommend to anyone wanting to visit Greece. With so much to see and do there as well as stunning landscapes to explore, it’s a gorgeous family location for the Summer. My top tip for anyone visiting Crete would be to hire a car to see as much of the island as possible, you can do this it Rental Center Crete.
Another stunning holiday destination is Mykonos, a Greek island that is famous for its A-list clientele and party nightlife. If you love destination hot spots such as Marbella and Ibiza, then this could definitely be an amazing option for you! If you want to hear more about Mykonos and why this should be on your destination bucket list, be sure to keep on reading to find out more!
The Amazing History
Mykonos is an island filled with a vast array of history that has helped shape it to become the island that it currently is today.
The likes of the Aegean Maritime Museum and the heritage house museum offer tourists an incredible insight into the previous lifestyles and culture of those who have occupied the island in the past. However, a firm favourite for tourists is a visit to the Gyzi Castle.
The castle, that was built in the 13th century, can be found situated only a few kilometres outside of the Mykonos town. It stands as fortress style ruin that overlooked the village of Ano Mera from the very top of the hill.
The view of the northern side of the island from the hilltop alone is worth the trip to visit the ancient castle.
A Taster of Venice
Staying on a Greek Island like Mykonos you’d be forgiven to think that it would only be the views of Greece you would be taking in. However, when you visit Alefkandra, you are given a taster of Italy. This is primarily due to the fact that the view has long been described as having a striking resemblance to the famous Italian town of Venice.
If you want to see Alefkandra then it is located on the southeast side of the harbour and you’ll be treated to a number of incredibly stunning views of the soothing Aegean Sea and get the perfect view of the sunset.
The Incredible Architecture
It goes without saying that being an island that is steeped in stunning historical architecture and landscape, the houses and buildings are, too, created in a similarly stylistically pleasing manner. This, for example, comes in the shape of the sacred church, Panagia Paraportiani. The distinctive looking church is an incredibly spiritual place to visit and mesmerises visitors with its soothing aura.

It is not just the churches and ancient architecture that is a feast for the eyes, the housing that locals get to live in is simply incredible and villas in Mykonos by BlueVillas provide an opportunity to get a true taste of staying in Mykonos and what it has to offer. Throughout the island there are a selection of various bakeries, restaurants overlooking the ocean catering for fans of many different foods. The Greek islands are also famous for their wide selection of amazing cheeses and wines and Mykonos does not disappoint here either. Make sure you taste their lovely feta cheese and take the time to go on a wine tasting trip where you can visit the vineyards and sample a range of beautiful wines. Whilst Mykonos has traditional coastal experiences such as laying upon the beach, Mykonos offers way more than just sunbathing. Mykonos offers tourists the chance to take part in water sports such as windsurfing, jet-skiing, snorkelling and, if you would prefer something a bit more chilled, some amazing bars.
The Energetic Nightlife
Paradise beach offers an incredible opportunity to party the night away in some of the most incredible beach clubs and nightclubs that are often played at by some of the worlds biggest DJ’s. While you may normally visit hot spots such as Ibiza and Marbella for your girls trip away, Mykonos is a fantastic alternative that offers something a little bit different.
