4 Christmas Getaway Ideas for Families
I love Christmas, I always have and no doubt always will, but wow, it is HARD WORK!!! Not only is the lead up to Christmas exhausting but the day itself is just a blur of presents, cooking, cleaning up and, before you know it, the day is over and there was barely time to stop and just enjoy it! And whilst I love having Christmas in our own home, I have been thinking, now the children are that little bit older, that a Christmas getaway could be equally magical and a whole lot more relaxing! I’ve put together 5 ideas for family friendly Christmas getaways.
1. Go Skiing!
For me, Christmas wouldn’t be quite the same without the snow, and the perfect way to combine a white Christmas with a relaxing getaway is a ski holiday! There’s no need for long haul flights, with some of the best slopes in Austria, just a short flight away. Mark Warner have some amazing, family friendly ski holidays, with good English-speaking ski schools for all ages and abilities. You can find out more information here.

2. Get some Winter sun
As much as I love Christmas, I’m not a fan of Winter and I have to admit I am already on the countdown for Spring. And as much as we tend to associate Christmas with the cold weather, the thought of some winter sun is very appealing! With a four hour flight across to the Canaries, or many package deals further afield, I definitely recommend looking at all-inclusive holidays where you can eat and drink as much as you like (isn’t that what Christmas is for?) without worrying about any added costs.
3. Take a Staycation
A Christmas getaway doesn’t always have to mean jetting off to an exotic location, there are some amazing places to visit here in the UK. Nothing screams Christmas more than a cosy log cabin in the Scottish Highlands, or a sea front cottage down on the South coast. Looking for larger properties means you can take along the extended family to host Christmas dinner, without the stress of cramming everyone around your dining table. For an extra special treat look into local restaurants and pubs for Christmas dinner so you can sit back and relax without all the hard work!

4. Go on a Cruise
These days there are so many family friendly cruises and its a great way to visit multiple countries on one trip. The great thing about cruises is that many of them really go to town at times such as Christmas, and the entertainment throughout is said to be incredible! For those who are looking for a luxurious Christmas getaway, taking a cruise is well worth considering.
So there you have it, four family friendly Christmas getaways. And whilst I shall be spending Christmas at home, juggling the kids and the turkey and serving dinner for 9, perhaps next year I’ll be skiing in the Alps or basking in the sunshine. Who knows?
