Our Wonderful Week: Catching up 9/52

I’ll be honest with you, at the start of the year when I decided to do a little round up each week, a voice at the back of my head piped up, “You’ll never maintain it!” and in fairness, they’d be right. Life has a habit of running away with you, especially when things are busy with work, at home, four kids who come home from school each night with a mountain of reading, homework, after school clubs and parties, and as a result the last three weeks have flown by without me managing a single round up.

In truth I guess it doesn’t really matter, these updates are solely for me to look back on at the end of the year and remember the little moments we celebrated, or the times we struggled, and know that there was something wonderful in every week, no matter how small.

Over half term we visited Cork for the week, somewhere we have never been before as a family, and as a result work was very much put on the back burner. We had an incredible week staying in three gorgeous locations, visiting Fota wildlife park and hand feeding rhinos, kissing the Blarney Stone at the top of the castle, sailing across to Spike Island to spook ourselves out at the old prison, and a whole lot more inbetween. Ireland was wonderful, and windy, and hectic as ever with three hyped up children, but it was just what we needed to blow away the cobwebs and break away from routine for seven blissful days.

We then had the excitement of Eva’s 8th birthday, celebrating with a party with her friends, a day out as a family, and a meal the following day to top it off. She was spoilt rotten, and rightly so, and loved every minute of turning 8. I, on the other hand, was an emotional wreck!

This week has been spent recovering, catching up on work, and dealing with three very tired and whiny children who struggle to get back into a routine way more than I do. It’s also been a busy week for me and my health, finally seeing my neurologist after a long wait, dealing with the prospect of an added complication in the form of a stomach ulcer from taking so much medication, and generally trying to power on regardless to get things done. Life can be hard at times and this time of year is so difficult for many. I’m sure I’m not alone in saying that, more than anything, I’m just ready for a little sunshine. Roll on Spring!
