Celebrating Mothers: You know you’re a Mum when…..

Before I had children, if you were to ask me, what makes a Mum, I would have told you, having a baby. I think it’s only afterwards that you realise the enormity of what being a Mum actually involves, and it comes as a real shock to the system! As much as I expected to feel a love like no other, to be in complete awe of what we had created, the realisation that I would love, worry, and protect this baby for the rest of my life, being a Mum certainly doesn’t end there!

In honour of Mothers Day tomorrow I asked a group of parent bloggers to finish the following sentence:

You know you’re a Mum when………..

1. Hot coffee is a rarity in life, but your no longer picky about the temperature, provided it’s caffeine! ~Life with boys

2. You go for a wee and get surrounded by mini me’s! ~ The Mum Diaries

3. Your handbag contains enough art supplies and snacks for a summer camp!  ~ My Mummy’s Pennies

4. Going to the supermarket childfree is now ‘me time’ and enjoyable!! ~ Dear Bear and Beany

5. Your weekends are spent no longer spent in the pub but ferrying your children around … ~ Truly madly kids

6. You don’t even flinch when someone wipes their bogies on you, pees on you or when your fingers slip when wiping their stinky butts! ~ REO Life

7. You say things like “stop licking the cat and your sister isn’t a pony.” ~ The Unsung Mum

8. You have been sat with the kids channel on for an hour and they have been in bed for an hour! ~ Jade’s journey

9. You get excited when you drive past tractors and diggers and then realise your son is at school and not in the back of the car. ~ Over 40 and a mum to one

10. All of your clothes are covered in snot, food and mucky handprints! ~ Devon Mama

11. ‘Millie-Mae’s mum’ or ‘Toby’s mum’, because no-one bothers to ask what you’re called! ~ Pack the PJs

12. You feel a massive sense of achievement after piling a bogey out of a small child’s nose! ~ Not an effing fairy tale

13. You can’t do anything jumping related because you might (definitely) wee yourself! ~ Raising the Rings

14. You hide behind the fridge door eating chocolate so they can’t see! ~ Neon Rainbow Blog

15. You’ve forgotten what it’s like to use a handbag and walking without a pushchair feels like an alien experience! ~ Tattooed tealady

16. When you can’t remember the last time you brushed your hair. ~ Bespoke Buckley

17. You catch vomit in your hands! Why do we do that?!~ A Blogs Life

18. You have a sudden panic when driving in the car and it goes quiet that you have left behind one or all of the kids!  ~ Mummy and Monkeys

19. You worry about the hangover before you even start drinking! ~ Rock and Roll pussycat

20. You stop wearing clothes that can’t be put on a boil wash to remove the sick, poo, splattered food & dribble strains from your outfit. ~ The UnNatural Mother

21. You spend three days looking for the lost cuddly toy that is essential for bedtime… And sobbing with them when you finally find it.  ~ Witty Hoots

22. You can recite every single nursery rhyme including the songs, beats and melodies on musical toys your child owns off by heart! ~ This womans word

23. The kids looks impeccable in gorgeous clothes and all you’ve done is had a deodorant shower and babywipe the sick off your shoulder! ~ Tippy Tupps

24. You find yourself singing ‘old McDonald had a farm’ on repeat in the (child-friendly) pub. ~ Muffin top Mummy

25. You eat three or four dinners in one night because you can’t bear to see all the food the kids have screwed their noses up at go in the bin…and then I still wonder why I can’t lose weight! ~ Life is Knutts

26. You have to make yourself a food buffer – that extra bit of food on your plate that you know the kids are going to want. ~ Messy blog UK

 27. Your car is covered in crumbs, crap and sand.  ~ Whinge whinge wine

28. When your bags have bags, your wrinkles have wrinkles and your wobbly bits have wobbly bits! ~ The happy weaner

29. You get excited about a bath in peace and an early night with a lie in the next day! ~ Oddhogg

30. You say to your partner ‘we need to figure out how to rescue Mr Dinkles from inside the hoover’. ~ Nomipalony

31. The idea of a great Saturday night is when your child actually goes down at half 7 and you can sit in silence on the opposite sofa to your husband and just not talk or be touched by anyone or hear ‘Mummy’ being screeched at you. Add a glass of wine and that is a party right there! ~ Emma Reed

32. Your handbag is full of baby wipes, tissues and raisins – which are all stuck to everything else in there! ~ School run shop

33. You know the value of a dirty leaf. It may look totally useless, but it’s all they own. And they’ve chosen to give it to you. ~ Mummies waiting

34. When you spend your day breaking up fights between little people. ~ Kirsty Dee

35. Wipes clean everything (your child, your clothes, the sofa, table, toilets, sides etc) ~ Mummies waiting

36. You can’t justify spending money on yourself, even when nothing in your wardrobe fits, it’s all covered in stains from milk, banana & other unmentionables but when the baby needs new clothes you happily spend spend spend! ~ The Amphletts

37. You plan your outfit based on how easily and discreetly you can get your boobs out at feeding time! ~ Gorgeous Georges Mama

38. Horrible Histories is hands down your favourite programme on TV right now. ~ Accidental Hipster Mum

39. You say ‘this is your last warning’ about 10 times and said last warning never seems to actually arrive! ~ Hollybobbs

40. Your heart is bursting with a love you didn’t know was possible. ~ Miracle Max

41. You say “I can’t do this” and a crowd of amazing, strong fellow mums say “Yes, you can” ~ The speed bump

    These are perfect – I feel like they need to be put into a little book and handed out at NCT class 🙂 All so true, I still get excited about going to the supermarket child-free and mine are both at school! 🙂
