Before children, many moons ago, a date night was a big deal. I would spend the whole day getting ready, a long soak in the bath, scrubbing, shaving, exfoliating, relaxing with an aromatic candle. I’d have my hair done, my nails done, my eyebrows and make up, and then slip into something lovely that I had trailed the shops for the previous week.
Date night post children is a very different matter. For one, date nights are few and far between and, for two, getting ready with the children around is far from relaxing! I have mastered the art of showering, shaving (or not if I’m wearing trousers!), slap on a bit of mascara, shove my hair up in a messy bun and jump into whatever’s clean, or whatever fits, all whilst shouting, “Put it down!”, “Don’t touch that!” and “Look what you’ve done now!” at the children.
In that way, I feel as though I have lost touch with all things beauty related and, at 37, I fear the moment has passed for me to ever master the art of winged eyeliner! So I was really interested to discover a new E-book from Ellisons, “Experts in Beauty”, sharing the hottest beauty trends for 2017. It got me thinking that I really should find more time for me, and even more so for date night. I just need to start making more of an effort.
I asked a group of parent bloggers for their beauty tips for date night.
Definitely shave! You can’t be going out all gorilla like, so a nice long bath, a shave, then do hair, make-up all whilst having a pre-dinner drink! If its a very special occasion then I get my nails done to and have acrylic extensions. ~ Mummy of 5 miracles
Doing my nails or having them done. With looking after a child and the house they often look so sad so I love having sparkly nails for a night out! ~ Scandi Mummy
Hot bath and a mini pedicure – get rid of any hard skin, moisturise your feet, file your nails and put on some new nail polish! ~ This is me now
Take the hassle out of doing your hair and book a late afternoon hair appointment! Sit back and let someone else pamper you for a change! ~ Miracle Max
HD brows! They make such a difference to your face and make me feel so much more groomed and together. ~ Edinburgh Life
I’m a huge fan of the new liquid peels that are available from Bodyshop – they aren’t as scary as they sound! I pop a hair mask on and while it’s working its magic I apply a liquid peel which removes all the dead skin cells and preps my skin ready for applying make-up. ~ The UnNatural Mother
I’m going to take these tips on board, along with the advice from “Experts in Beauty”, and make sure that when Gaz and I celebrate our wedding anniversary later this month, I am looking preened and polished with the most perfect eyeliner!
