Before I had children I loved nothing more than jetting off on holiday, twice a year, visiting hot sandy beaches and drinking exotic cocktails in fancy hotels. Since the children came along our holidays are very different, we now holiday on the South coast in a rented property or a static caravan, drinking soft drinks to avoid the hangover, wrapping up in our coats and wellies when the weather takes a turn for the worse. And as much as I don’t begrudge that, at all, I do sometimes day dream about all of the places we will visit when the children are that little bit older.
With the help of Destination2.co.uk we have put together our top 5 holidays with the hope that, at some point in the next decade, we can tick them all off the list.
1. The Maldives
The Maldives is my idea of the perfect holiday – beautiful beaches, gorgeous weather, blue skies and luxurious resorts. Gaz and I want very different things from our holidays, I just want to lie there reading a good book and swim in the pool where as he likes to be doing activities such as diving or water sports, both of which the Maldives can offer in abundance.
2. New York
I’m pretty sure that New York is on most people’s bucket lists, and it is certainly on ours! Although I’m not usually a fan of city holidays, there is something about New York which fascinates me and I am desperate to go and see all of the sights and enjoy a spot of shopping!!
3. Jamaica
Jamaica has been on my holiday bucket list for years now, although we still haven’t made it over there. Obviously I find the beautiful beaches and the promise of sunshine appealing, but as someone who is a huge fan of Jamaican cuisine, I am desperate to go there and eat my body weight in Jamaican chicken and tradition rice and peas!
4. Thailand
Before children, although I had lots of lovely holidays, I never travelled the world. I never jetted from one country to the next or island hopped with just a backpack. With four children in tow I’m pretty sure that kind of holiday just wouldn’t suit us, but I do want to see Thailand and visit several of the islands, it looks like the most beautiful country and has so much to offer in terms of culture and cuisine.
5. Greece
Greece is the only one on this list that I have actually been to, just the once, and fell completely in love with. I have such fond memories of Greece, the people, the culture, the cuisine, and the most beautiful beaches and clear seas. If I had to make a guess as to which of these five places we would visit the first, it would be Greece. And I for one can’t wait!!

Greece would be on the top of my list too. I dream of visiting Santorini and walking among the ruins in Athens. OMG. Such a dream destination! I hope I get the chance to visit at least once in this lifetime. I would also love to visit the beaches in Jamaica, the Maldives, and Thailand.

I too have a similar list on my blog. As you say its very very subjective why we love on place over other. But these listings surely provide a window into the mindset of the author:)

Oh. Maldives and Greece — they are still on my list. I really wanted, and I feel that I really need to visit those places. Seems like they’re calling my name out. Kidding aside, you have a great list – I am sure every traveler would check out your choices.

I’ve been to three, but I sincerely want to go to two – The Maldives and Jamaica. I’ve heard nothing but good things and the Maldives has done a brilliant job of marketing themselves as THE destination you think about when you want insanely blue waters. Anyway, fun little read. Thanks!

Oh I agree, Maldives is the top of my list, it looks amazing! Hope you make it! xx
